Geotab USA Inc., a global leader in connected vehicle and asset management solutions, today announced a strategic partnership with Autocar, a prominent manufacturer of custom-engineered vocational trucks. As part of this collaboration, Geotab GO devices will be factory-installed in all internal combustion engine (ICE) trucks produced by Autocar.

This integration marks a significant advancement in Autocar’s digital capabilities. By embedding Geotab’s GO devices directly on the production line, Autocar will gain access to near real-time, enterprise-grade telematics data. This data will enhance critical business functions across production, warranty, and service operations, including Autocar’s proprietary “Always Up” systems. The result: more proactive vehicle health monitoring, streamlined maintenance workflows, and optimized fleet uptime for end users.

For fleet operators, this development eliminates the need for aftermarket telematics installations. With Geotab technology seamlessly embedded as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) solution, Autocar vehicles will provide instant connectivity from day one.

“In today’s competitive landscape, easy access to high-quality data is essential,” said James McDermott, Senior Solution Partnerships Manager at Geotab. “Geotab is committed to eliminating barriers and equipping fleets with the insights they need to operate more intelligently and efficiently. Our partnership with Autocar ensures that every truck delivers integrated, actionable data to maximize uptime and performance.”

Autocar leadership echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the value of embedded telematics to enhance its customer support model.

“This collaboration with Geotab enables us to proactively monitor truck performance and deliver direct OEM support to our customers,” said Eric Schwartz, President of Autocar. “Integrating Geotab’s leading telematics solution into our factory workflow, alongside our continued investment in field data analytics, reinforces our commitment to ‘Always Up’ performance and expands our direct-to-customer service approach that has long defined our brand.”

The partnership between Geotab and Autocar represents a shared commitment to innovation, reliability, and customer-centric fleet solutions, positioning both companies at the forefront of the evolving vocational truck and telematics landscape.

Why factory-installed telematics matters

When telematics is installed on the production line instead of after delivery, fleets get usable data from the first mile. There is no aftermarket install to schedule, fewer wiring and harness issues, and a consistent hardware baseline across every truck in the fleet. For the manufacturer, near real-time data supports warranty, service and uptime programs, so problems can be flagged before a truck is stranded on a job site.

That matters most in vocational work. Refuse, construction and municipal fleets run tight daily routes where a single breakdown can throw off an entire day of service. Predictive maintenance built on engine and fault-code data is one of the most practical, high-return uses of connected-vehicle technology.

Questions fleets should ask

  • Who owns the data, and how can it be exported to the fleet’s existing telematics or maintenance platform?
  • What is included at no extra cost, and what requires a subscription?
  • How will the OEM use fault data to shorten repair times and parts lead times?
